How does a heat battery boiler work?

Our heat battery boiler charges using off-peak electricity, stores energy as heat in a high-density ceramic core, then releases that heat into your home when you need it.

So you get everything you like about central heating – powered by smart electricity.

Is a heat battery boiler right for your home?

Our heat battery boiler is designed for homes that want familiar central heating without gas, oil or LPG. It can be a great heat pump alternative if you do not have outdoor space, want to avoid a major retrofit, or need a lower-disruption installation.

The ZEB typically works best in homes with:

Up to 12,000kWh annual heating and hot water use
60kWh or less daily heat demand
Whole-home heat loss of 5kW or less
Radiators or underfloor heating
A hot water tank, or space for one
Suitable indoor space on a solid, level surface
Flats, bungalows, semi-detached or detached 2–4 bedroom homes

The ZEB doesn’t just charge blindly. It thinks ahead. By combining your home’s heating patterns with weather forecasts and your energy tariff, it automatically calculates exactly when and how much to charge.
You get all the warmth your home needs, powered by the cheapest, greenest electricity windows available.

- It learns your habits
  ZEB tracks how much heat your home actually uses and matches it against your local weather forecast to accurately predict the day ahead. If tomorrow looks mild, it holds back. If a cold snap is coming, it automatically tops up its core so it is fully ready for the drop in temperature.

- It bypasses peak rates
  Electricity prices can fluctuate throughout the day. Instead of drawing power when demand and cost are highest, ZEB automatically targets your tariff’s cheapest off-peak hours to lock in lower rates and protect you from peak pricing.

- It adjusts in real time
  Plans change, and so does the weather. As the day unfolds, the ZEB constantly checks its prediction against reality, making micro-adjustments behind the scenes so you are never left short.

You keep total control
Automation doesn’t mean losing your say. Use the tepeo app to set your charging preferences, track your state of charge, or give the ZEB a manual boost whenever you need it.

The tepeo ZEB is a heat battery boiler designed to seamlessly replace the central heating side of your old system. If you currently have a combi boiler (which handles both your radiators and your hot water in one box), you will simply need to add a separate hot water solution alongside your ZEB.
