How does the ZEB work?

The ZEB is powered by electricity and works like a battery to store energy as heat until it is needed. Electric heating elements charge up a “core” inside the ZEB – storing a lot of energy in a small footprint.

Our patented heat-management technology then cleverly releases the heat to your radiators, underfloor heating and water tank when your thermostat calls for it.

Benefits of the ZEB

Greener than gas or oil

Kinder to our planet by cutting 100% of direct home heating carbon emissions.

Cheaper than electric boilers

The ZEB is half the running cost, saving you up to £1.5k a year.

Easy to install, use & maintain

Installed in 1-2 days with the same experience as your current boiler.

What's the ideal home for a ZEB?

The ZEB works best in a home that has the following:

  • Up to 12,000kWh of energy usage per year for heating & hot water (roughly 1,100L of oil). You can find an estimate on your energy bill
  • A ‘wet’ heating system i.e. you have radiators or underfloor heating, and a hot water tank (or can get one)
  • Space for the ZEB on an accessible, solid and level surface – typically on the ground floor.
  • Either a flat, bungalow, semi-detached or detached 2-4 bedroom house
  • A daily heat consumption of 60 kWh or less
  • A whole home heat loss of 5 kW or less

ZEB specifications

Looking for information on the size, performance and features of the ZEB? See key specs below or download the full spec sheet.

  • Dimensions (W x D x H): 598 x 660 x 980mm (excludes necessary clearance)
  • Weight: 375kg
  • Thermal storage capacity: 40 kWh
  • Heat output: 15kW

How much does the ZEB cost?

A ZEB costs £6,000 to purchase, which includes VAT and delivery. Currently, the ZEB isn’t zero-rated for VAT purposes (20% VAT applies) and doesn’t receive any subsidies (but we’re working on it). If you’d like to help speed this process up, please write to your MP using the instructions here, requesting that the ZEB benefits from funding options.

Check how much you could save in running costs by making the switch to a ZEB with our cost & carbon calculator.

Installation costs vary and depend on your home, heating system requirements and local installer rates – however as it should take no more than 1-2 days and you won’t need to change radiators the costs are lower than most alternatives. We can put you in touch with a tepeoPRO installer in your area to get a quote specific to your home.

Intelligent heating through Smart Charging

The ZEB programmes itself to work out when and how much to charge throughout the day, also known as Smart Charging.

1. Learning

First, the ZEB learns how much heat your home needs and uses local weather forecasts to make a prediction for the day ahead.

2. Adapting

Next, the ZEB works out how much to charge and when to do it based on your tariff pricing, the grid carbon intensity and predicted heat demand.

3. Adjusting

As the day unfolds, the ZEB constantly checks its level of charge and re-calculates to make adjustments throughout the day if needed.

4. Control

You are always in control – the tepeo app lets you adjust or set how the ZEB should charge and you can always boost the ZEB manually.

Always in control with the tepeo App

Take control of your ZEB from anywhere with the tepeo App. The App is your window into what your ZEB is doing, giving you a view of:

  • The live status of your ZEB.
  • Historical data showing when and how much your ZEB has charged.
  • Real time carbon intensity of your local electricity network
  • The carbon emissions from your ZEB’s charging over time.

You can also adjust your ZEB on the go with the App, setting Away Mode, adjust Smart Charging, or Boost your ZEB on a cold day.

Peace of mind, guaranteed

We know heating and hot water is important – that’s why your ZEB comes with up to a 10-year guarantee.

Like with all boilers and heat pumps, some maintenance is required to keep your ZEB working at its best. As a minimum, you can arrange an annual ZEB Health Check for £149 / year.

Alternatively, for £10 / month, our tepeo Care plan can offer peace of mind, helping to maintain your 10-year guarantee by providing the routine checks your ZEB needs.

Terms and conditions apply.

What our customers say

See what our customers have to say about the ZEB and the installation process.

“The ZEB is easily controlled by an app from your mobile phone, it includes lots of functions so you can program it to suit your needs and take advantage of any smart electricity tariffs you might have, you can also see what energy it uses and the cost. The ZEB is a great alternative to a heat pump if like me it isn’t suited to your home.”

Keri Lloyd

The product itself is quite amazing. It doesn’t hide behind various jargon, what you see is what you get. For our house if we were to have got an air source heat pump we would have had to change out all our radiators and pipes which would have brought the cost to in the 10s of thousands, whereas tepeo’s offering was considerably less.

Kirill Volynkin

“My dogs are happy with a warm kitchen 24/7, my wife’s happy to have a consistently warm house again and the kids no longer need to ask if we have any hot water. Christmas heating was the acid test for my setup, and I’m glad I made the leap of faith with our ZEB.”
